Having over 15 years’ experience, and working in many areas of the food industry, I have a wealth of experience when it comes to food.

Starting with growing up in the hospitality industry, then working in my first Saturday job in a Yorkshire bakery, followed by many years in the catering industry as a General Manager of a restaurant group. Returning to work in the Technical side of the food industry after taking time out for family, I’ve gained the required qualifications and experience, meaning my expertise has gone from strength to strength.

In 2018, I took a leap of faith, and decided to set up my own business, Ruth Shaw Consulting Ltd. I can truthfully say that I love my job and really enjoy helping and guiding food businesses to achieve their food safety and legality goals!

Although I am based in Sheffield I work with businesses throughout the UK.

Introducing Rebecca Norris-Small at RJ Food Consulting, who supports Ruth with clients in London and the South of England.

RJ Food Consulting Ltd offers independent food safety support and advice throughout the food supply chain for ingredient suppliers, food and drink manufacturers, and distributors. Services include HACCP planning, internal auditing and implementing UK food safety Standards and version updates.

I cover all aspects of food safety, including when you’re just starting out on your foodie journey.

I can help you to understand the legislation and how it applies to you and your business, as well as helping you to write your first HACCP plan and get your labelling right first time.

I can help with registering your food business with your local council, preparing for your first Environmental Health Officer (EHO) Inspection and setting up your kitchen practically and with the required documentation.

Moving to SALSA

I offer comprehensive support in relation to SALSA. Being a SALSA auditor, mentor and HACCP trainer, I know my stuff! I provide a high-level, friendly service for businesses who’ve made the decision to implement SALSA. To do so, you need to ensure the premises are SALSA compliant, so a site visit for guidance and advice may well help. A HACCP upgrade could be what you need, with a little expert assistance to get it to a top standard. The labelling on your products could need checking to ensure it’s legally compliant. Checking you have all the documentation in place to fit the SALSA standard is essential. A pre-written SALSA Documentation Pack which has 90% of the work done for you is an efficient way to get started. The other 10% is specific to your products and processes, and can be implemented by you or as a team with my assistance. When implemented you can be certain that you and your business is totally compliant and legal, and that you will pass first time. I have a 100% pass rate to date!

BRC support

Whether you are just starting out with BRC and need a GAP analysis service, a HACCP update, or assistance writing your first BRC quality management system, I am here as an extension of your Technical Food Safety Team. I have worked with clients implementing BRC Food, BRC Agents & Brokers and BRC Storage & Distribution from scratch, all achieving an A grade or above on the first audit.

If you are an existing BRC site who needs to get up to date with those internal audits which have fallen behind, a monthly visit from me might be just what you need.

I can support your Supplier and Raw Material Approval team or set up new systems that are more efficient and tick all of the BRC or Retailer requirements.
